National Craft Month

MARCH · CAUSE

National craft month.

Craft stores, makerspaces, community centers and art programs. The audience notices materials in a way most promo audiences don't.

Craft Month buyers are craft retailers, libraries running maker programs, community centers and art-supply brands. The distinguishing feature of this audience: they can tell the difference between a good blank and a bad one, because they work with materials all day. Cheap feels cheap to them faster than it does to anyone else.

Natural cotton over non-woven

The ranked list leans heavily on cotton totes and pencils, which fits — a natural cotton tote is itself a craft substrate. People dye them, patch them, iron things onto them. Give this audience the plain canvas and they will do something with it, which is a much longer life than a printed polypropylene bag gets.

That argues for a smaller, better order. Fifty good cotton totes at a workshop outperform five hundred throwaway bags at a store entrance.

Pencils and markers, not pens

Craft is the one month where pencils outrank pens in the data, and carpenter pencils show up alongside the standard round ones. If the program involves woodworking, sewing or any layout work, a flat carpenter pencil is a real tool rather than a giveaway. Mood pencils that change color with heat do disproportionately well with kids’ craft sessions.

Leave room on the imprint

A small logo in one corner of a canvas tote leaves the rest of the surface usable. A full-front print does not. For this audience specifically, restraint in the imprint makes the item more valuable, not less — you’re handing over a blank they’ll finish themselves, and your mark rides along on whatever they make.

Ordering timeline

For March, start by mid-January.

That leaves room for artwork, a proof you actually get to review, production and ground shipping. Tighter than that and we’re talking rush. See real production timelines or what rush actually costs.
