Buying notes for Great Outdoors Month
June is parks and recreation departments, state tourism boards, outfitters, trail associations, scouting groups and conservation nonprofits. The audience is going to take the item outside and use it, which is a higher bar than most promotional products are built for.
Bags and light
Drawstring and cinch backpacks lead this list — they’re cheap, they hold a day’s worth of stuff, and they get grabbed for every trailhead and park event. LED flashlights rank surprisingly high and shouldn’t be surprising: they’re the thing people wish they had at dusk, they last for years, and they end up in a glovebox with your name on them.
Insulated bottles and tumblers do the rest of the work. For anything going in a pack, prioritise a lid that doesn’t leak over anything else on the spec sheet.
Conservation groups should watch the material
If your organization’s message is environmental, a bag made of thin virgin polypropylene undercuts it. Recycled-content bags, organic cotton and recycled-PET fabrics cost more and answer the obvious question before someone asks it. If you’re claiming recycled content in your marketing, get the actual percentage from us in writing and use that number rather than a vague claim.
