Who orders custom crew socks

Running clubs, gyms and brands who want a merchandise item people wear until it wears out are the usual buyers. A run club gives them to members who hit a mileage goal. A gym sells them at the front desk. A company adds a pair to a new-hire box or a conference kit because socks are one of the few branded items people are glad to receive.

Designing a knit sock

Because the design is knit in, think in blocks of color rather than fine detail. Bold stripes, a repeating logo, a pattern on the leg and a wordmark across the top work well. Gradients and very small text do not translate to knit. Your colors are set as part of the design, and the free proof shows the full sock layout before production begins.

The 100-piece minimum is already past $500, so the $35 setup does not apply. The steps to watch are 250 to 500, about 19% off each piece, and 500 to 1,000, about 14% more. Between 1,000 and 2,500 the price barely changes, so a brand selling socks in its shop can stop at 1,000 unless sales justify the next real break at 5,000.

Ten business days to knit

The socks are produced over 10 business days after proof approval, then shipped. For a race series or a holiday merch drop, start the design conversation about four weeks out so there is room to adjust the knit layout on the proof.

Will the design fade in the wash?

The design is knit into the yarn rather than printed on top, so there is no print layer to crack or peel.
