EVENTS · OUTDOORS
Beach and waterfront giveaways.
Resorts, tourism boards and summer events. Sun, sand and salt water are all working against the product.
Beach giveaways get an unusually hard life: sunlight, sand in every mechanism, and salt water on anything metal. Items that are fine at a conference fail in a week here, and the ones that survive get used all summer.
Sunglasses are the highest-ranked item
They top nearly every beach list, and the reason is that people forget theirs. Worth knowing what you are buying though: promotional sunglasses vary enormously in whether they offer real UV protection. If you are handing them out on a health or tourism message, ask us for the UV rating rather than assuming, and do not imply protection the product does not provide.
Shade is the useful gift
Bucket hats and wide-brim styles do genuine work at a beach event, and a UPF-rated one does more than sunscreen because nobody reapplies. For resorts and tourism boards this is also the item that appears in every holiday photograph, which is a better outcome than a logo on a bag.
Sand and salt kill mechanisms
Anything with a hinge, a zip or a spring is on borrowed time. Choose moulded, sealed and simple — silicone, moulded plastic, coated fabric. Aluminium bottles handle it; cheap chrome trim does not, and it will be pitted before the holiday is over.
