Buying notes for Fundraisers
Every other event on this list spends a budget. A fundraiser has to make one back. That changes the entire calculation: you are not asking what people will like, you are asking what they will pay more for than it cost you, at a table, in cash, without thinking hard.
Price backward, not forward
Start from what a supporter will hand over without hesitating — usually ten or fifteen dollars for a shirt or a tote, five for a wristband. Work back to the unit cost that leaves a real margin at that price, and only then pick the product. Choosing the item first and discovering the maths afterwards is the most common way these end up breaking even.

Two products, two jobs
You need something cheap and countable to hand every participant — a wristband, a pin, a ribbon — and something better to actually sell. Trying to make one item do both means it is either too expensive to give away or too cheap for anyone to buy.
Don’t over-order the apparel
Unsold shirts are the classic fundraiser loss, and they have no second life once the year is printed on them. Leave the date off, weight the size run toward the middle, and order conservatively — a sell-out is a better story than a storeroom.
