Debossing & Embossing

A heated metal die presses your logo into the material and leaves it there. No ink, no foil, no color — just the impression and the shadow it throws. Debossing pushes in; embossing raises up. On leather, board and vinyl it tends to read as the most expensive thing on the table precisely because it is the quietest.

This is a journal, padfolio and leather-goods method. It needs a material with some give: press something rigid and you get a crease rather than an impression.

The thing to understand before you commit is that low-contrast artwork can disappear. There is no color doing any work, so a logo that depends on a light element sitting against a dark one loses that distinction entirely. Bold shapes and solid letterforms hold. Thin serifs and fine interior detail fill in. If your mark is delicate, foil stamping gives you the same restraint with something left to see.

A die is cut once and charged once, then kept on file for two years, so reorders carry no new setup. Lead time is 8–12 business days after proof approval, because the die has to be made before anything can be pressed.
